Yes, it is November. It’s never too late, though, right?
So, this quilt I started in February and finished in May. I am a big fan of Tula Pink, and even though I almost never just use one line in a quilt, here I did. For the front I picked a pattern that would let me show off some fussy-cut squirrels. I have always thought I wanted to sew a dahlia quilt, so now seemed like a good time. It is a little hard to see in the photo, but there is a lot of quilting on there. I did blue, pink, and green spirals in the flower part, and a lot of gray echoing of the petals in the background.
I entered it into the MN state fair in August into what I would guess is one of the largest categories (Large quilt, machine quilted by entrant). It won a 2nd place ribbon! Yipee! I was not expecting that.
I also entered it into the Minnesota Quilters show in Duluth. I had never been to the show before, and I’m not sure I am going to enter the judged portion again. Many of the quilts were more like what I would imagine you see at the AQS show in Paducah. Crazy!
Because I wanted this quilt to be quite special, I also designed a graphic (though easy!) pattern for the back. It came together in just a few hours, and let me use up more of the very pretty Tula prints! You can see more of the quilting on the back. Also, I couldn’t pick a binding, so I went scrappy. I really like it!
The back I named “Out of the box”, and you can get the pattern on Craftsy or Etsy.
Now I just have to photograph the other quilts I’ve finished before we get snow…
